Handball can be played on grass, the playground, sand as well as in an indoor area.

The official playing court area is a 40 metres long and 20 metres wide rectangle.  There are two goal areas inside the playing area.

There should be a safety zone surrounding the playing court of at least 1m along the side lines and 2m behind the goal lines.

Adapted games for younger age group teams are often played on smaller courts.

Sport England have provided to London Handball Association the following list of London Sport Halls with Post Codes that have a playing area of up to 40m long and width 20m.
