Officiate Handball
“No Officials, No Match!”
Handball Officials are an extremely important to the development of Handball, Goal Ball, Wheelchair Handball and Beach Handball throughout the country, at all levels of ability and at all ages. We need to create the opportunities to develop officials in Handball.
The officials are equally as important as the players – without them no match can take place.
We are very fortunate to have the support of the London 2012 Handball Competition Manager Alex Gavrilovic in this area and we would like to take this opportunity to thank Alex for his support in developing technical officiating.
Alex has been actively involved in handball for 29 years and during that time Alex has held many roles. These have included representing New South Wales and Australia as a player, coaching and managing teams at all levels, officiating, refereeing and holding various administrative roles, among them Secretary-General and President of the NSW Handball Association and the Australian Handball Federation.
Alex was the Handball Competition Manager at the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games, a highlight of his involvement in the sport, which includes the management of numerous national and international handball events. Alex is keen to exceed all previous achievements by his contribution to the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Referee
Refereeing Handball is a challenging and rewarding experience. To do it well, you need to be fit, you need to be a good ‘people manager’ and you need to be fair and honest. In addition it is important that you have good communication skills, understand the game technically and tactically and of course, last but not least, you need to know the rules of the game.
The International Handball Federation publishes the full version of the official rules here.
The European Handball Federation have recently created a new website to support Handball referee’s and delegates handballreferee.com will carry important information for handball referees and delegates.
The International Handball Federation has a technical corner where you can find information about the Global Referee Training Programme, the rules and publications.
