Handball teams from London schools enjoyed unprecedented and worthy success at the U13 National Schools Handball Championships held in Wolverhampton on Saturday 24th June 2011.
Harris Boys’ Academy East Dulwich and Woolwich Polytechnic School travelled to Wolverhampton to play the final stages of the competition having competed against teams from the South of England.
The teams performed to a very high standard in all areas on Finals day. In fact extra time had to be played between the London teams in the final match to decide the winners of the national title.
In the end it was Harris Academy that ran out winners 9-7 and were crowned U13 National Champions. The team was congratulated by Mike Briers, Chairman of the England Handball Association on their outstanding achievement and also for the style in which they played.
In addition to their trophy the team was presented with tickets to attend a Handball test event for the London 2012 Olympic Games in the new Handball arena in East London and some of the Great Britain Handball players will attend a coaching session at Harris Boys’ Academy.
Congratulations to both teams on an outstanding performance.
U13 South of England Handball Champions Harris Academy (May 2011)
The Harris Academy Dulwich won the U13 South of England Schools Competition.
This is remarkable achievement for a group of boys who took up the sport for the first time in September. Their hard work, commitment to training and several competitive fixtures against older opposition has resulted in the boys growing in confidence as individuals and as a close knit team.
As a result the Harris Academy will represent the South of England at the National Schools U13 Handball Competition in Wolverhampton on 24th June 2011.
